On 01 February 2018 at 1719 UTC (1219 EST) the COSPAS-SARSAT system detected a 406 MHz Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) at 34 20.35N 117 40.41W, 29 miles northeast of Pasadena, CA. The beacon was automatically activated when a helicopter, with 3 persons aboard, crashed after experiencing engine failure. The Air Force Rescue Coordination Center received the SARSAT alert and notified the California Office of Emergency Management (CA OEM). CA OEM contacted local authorities, who dispatched emergency personnel to the SARSAT position. The 3 uninjured persons were located and transported to safety.
