Build your own Communications Satellite
This coming August we will be launching a communications satellite. It will complete the current fleet of space-based satellites in our Space Network. Tracking and Data Relay Satellites, or TDRS, have four different types of antennas. Use the video below to learn how you can make your own TDRS and discover its different components, including its antennas.
This hands-on activity is great for ages 5 through adult. You can take our model, cut it out and construct it. Or, you can use our model as inspiration for your own. Be creative. Use materials from around the house, and paint or color your TDRS. Hey, get wild and crazy and do a 3-D print of one if you have the resources!
Show us your work: tag us on our social media sites (@NASA_TDRS on Twitter and www.facebook.com/NASA.TDRS). We’d love to feature your unique TDRS creations!
